NEWSPAPERS IN THE NATIONAL TERRITORY THAT CAN ACCESS PUBLIC CONTRIBUTIONS TO PUBLISHING

Public contributions to publishing are intended for those businesses that carry out autonomous and independent information activities of a general nature:

  • journalistic cooperatives;
  • publishing companies whose capital is predominantly held by cooperatives, foundations or non-profit entities, limited to a period of five years starting from 15 November 2016, the date of entry into force of law no. 26 October 2016. 198 ;
  • non-profit entities or publishing companies whose capital is entirely held by such entities;
  • publishing companies that publish newspapers and periodicals representing linguistic minorities.

PUBLIC CONTRIBUTIONS TO PUBLISHING AND PRESS EXPRESSION OF LINGUISTIC MINORITIES: MORE THAN 5.5 MILLION EUROS

There are eight publishing companies of newspapers and periodicals representing linguistic minorities that receive public funding for a total of 5,566,571.88 euros. The most generous check goes to Dolomiten , a German-language newspaper published by Athesia Druck srl, which receives 3,088,498.02 euros, absorbing more than half of the available fund. At a distance follows Primorski Dnevnik , in Slovenian, published by PR.AE Promozione Attivita Ed.le srl which received a check for 867,531.36 euros, Die Neue Sudtiroler Tageszeitung , in German, which received 536,672.82 euros and Ff-Sudtiroler Wochenmagazin, again in German and with a check for 322,643.97 euros. The other five newspapers receiving funding are:

  • Südtiroler Wirtschaftszeitung – SWZ (173,711.79 euros)
  • BZ (172,243.55 euros)
  • Novi Matajur (055.36 euros)
  • Novi Glas (140,382.95 euros)
  • La Usc di Ladins , newspaper in Ladin language (129,832.06 euros)

PUBLIC CONTRIBUTIONS TO PUBLISHING FOR NEWSPAPERS OF ITALIANS ABROAD

Public contributions to publishing are also envisaged for publishing companies of Italian periodicals abroad that deal with topics of interest to Italian communities, in order to protect ties with Italy and contribute to spreading the Italian language and culture as well as the promotion of the Italian system abroad. Companies/associations that publish:

  • periodicals published and distributed abroad with texts written at least 50 percent in Italian;
  • periodicals published in Italy and distributed mainly abroad.

TO THE NEWSPAPERS OF ITALIANS ABROAD JUST OVER HALF A MILLION EUROS

There are only three "Italians abroad" newspapers that receive funding for a total of 514,898.42 euros. The most generous cheque, worth 236,106.26 euros, goes to “ La Voce del Popolo! ”, a daily newspaper published by the editorial journalistic body EDIT Fiume, followed by Corriere Canadese , with 162,643.04 euros, and, finally, Il Globo , a daily newspaper for Italians abroad, with 116,149.12 euros.

FROM THE EXTRAORDINARY FUND 90 MILLION EUROS FOR THOSE WHO INVESTED IN INNOVATION

Furthermore, the 2022 – 2024 Budget Law established the " Extraordinary Fund for interventions to support publishing " by providing it with 90 million euros for the year 2022 and 140 million euros for the year 2023 (Law of 30 December 2021 n. 234, Article 1, c. 375). The extraordinary measure finances interventions to support publishing, with the aim of encouraging investments by publishing companies, including newly established ones, oriented towards technological innovation and digital transition, and the entry of young qualified professionals in the field of new media , and to support company restructuring and social safety nets and to support the demand for information.

THE NEWSSTAND BONUS: 2 THOUSAND EUROS ONCE TO NEWSSTANDS

The publishing sector is in such difficulty that it is not enough to help newspapers get published, it is also necessary to support the income of newsstands. The Prime Ministerial Decree of 28 September 2022 has provided for a one-off contribution as a measure to support newsstands up to 2 thousand euros, within the limit of 15 million euros. To raise funds, the Extraordinary Fund for interventions to support publishing is drawn upon.
